Don Ranson : ウィキペディア英語版
Don Ranson

Don Ranson is an Australian archaeologist who played an important role in the discovery and recognition of the antiquity of Aboriginal archaeology in Tasmania.〔Tim Bonyhady, Tom Griffiths, ''Words for Country: Landscape & Language in Australia'', UNSW Press, 2002〕 This discovery has been documented in many subsequent histories of Tasmanian Archaeology, including that dedicated to the expedition itself,〔(Ask Doctor Dig, General archaeology questions for Dr. dig )〕 as well as video documentaries of the find.〔(Kiernan, K., Jones, R., Ranson, D., Murray, P., & Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies. (2010). Fraser Cave: Kutikina Cave. Canberra?: Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) )〕
Ranson was born in Sheffield, England,〔('Sheffield history' forum, A Sheffield History Bibliography, Started by dunsbyowl1867, Mar 02 2009 08:07 AM ) Eyewitness to Discovery, Oxford University Press, 1996]〕 subsequently migrating to Australia and completing his PhD in 1978 on the excavation of one hut depression in a cluster of three at Sundown Point, Tasmania.〔Ranson, Don 1978 A preliminary examination of prehistoric coastal settlement at Nelson Bay, west coast of Tasmania. ''Australian Archaeology'' 8:149-157〕
Ranson was one of the people credited with the discovery of Fraser Cave (later renamed Kutikina Cave), with Rhys Jones in Tasmania's West Coast,〔(New_evidence_from_Fraser_Cave_for_glacial_age_man_in_south-west_Tasmania )〕 which established the Pleistocene occupation of the Tasmanian highlands.〔(''New Scientist'' 20 Jan 1983 )〕
In the 1990s he was senior archaeologist with the Department of Parks, Wildlife and Heritage Tasmania. He has most recently been with the Aboriginal Heritage Office, in the Cultural Heritage Branch, DPIWE, Tasmania.
Ranson was also a pioneer of the application of remote sensing techniques for the discvery of archaeological sites in Australia, one example being applied to the Aboriginal burials at Wybellina.〔(The Application of Earth-Resistivity Surveys to Australian Archaeological Sites, Ranson & Brian Egloff, ''Australian Journal of Historical Archaeology'' Vol. 6, 1988 )〕
